Welcome Message from Congress President

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

The year 2016 marks an important milestone for the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-retina Society (APVRS). We conclude our first decade since establishment and look forward to the coming years of challenges and successes.

In light of the accelerated progress in the field of vitreo-retinal diseases, the Asia-Pacific region will continue to play a vital role in facilitating research and discovery. The APVRS congress is an established platform for this task, and the 10th Congress in 2016 will begin our next decade with further opportunities for scientific exchange.

It is my pleasure to invite you to the 10th APVRS Congress held in conjunction with the 38th Annual Meeting of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of Thailand on December 8-10, 2016, at Bangkok Convention Center at CentralWorld, Bangkok, Thailand.

Bangkok, one of the most modern cities in Asia, is blessed with not only the best meeting facilities but also numerous exciting attractions for visitors: impressive cultural and historical sites, family-oriented facilities, varied shopping opportunities and more. I am certain you will enjoy your stay in Bangkok apart from the great opportunity to participate in the academic congress.

I encourage you to take part in this most prestigious event. It is only with your contribution that we can ensure the success of the 10th APVRS Congress.

Thank you very much. I look forward to welcoming you in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 10th APVRS Congress will be held on December 8 – 10, 2016, at Bangkok Convention Center at CentralWorld, Bangkok, Thailand—a fully integrated and innovative convention venue situated right in the heart of the city. Its unique design was inspired by the shape of a blooming lotus flower combined with the four elements of life – water, earth, air and fire – to represent the true spirit of iconic Bangkok.

The convention center is located on top of CentralWorld parking facilities. With a capacity of 6,000 delegates, it is the biggest convention venue in the central business district of Bangkok. In addition, the superb surroundings filled with shopping and entertainment create the perfect environment for meetings and conventions.

Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is one of Asia’s most popular tourist destinations, with a wide variety of things to see and do. The city’s Rattanakosin district, which was established in 1782, is the historic center, or “Old Bangkok.” It is home to the magnificent Grand Palace, the former residence of the king. Take a stroll around the palace’s many beautiful buildings and grounds. Inside you can see ornate thrones, bronze elephants and impressive collections of weapons, jewelry and coins.

Adjacent to the Grand Palace is Wat Phra Kaew, which is the most sacred temple in Thailand. This temple is also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, but actually the Buddha inside is made of jade. According to legend, it was made in India more than 2,000 years ago.

Another famous temple, Wat Pho, is also located nearby. It contains the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand, and possibly in the whole world! Feeling tired from too much sightseeing? Don’t worry! There is a massage school located inside the temple complex, where you can relax and enjoy a traditional Thai massage.
